It is Well on Etsy.com

It is Well on Etsy.com

It is well with my soul.

I got into a wreck yesterday. It hurt. I was upset because my car is ruined. But my husband was happy.

Why? Because I was still alive. He had a momentary loss of joy when he was afraid I was hurt and non responsive. When I let him know I was fine, his world began to turn again. For him, it was a good thing.

Remember, no matter what happens to you, there is always something GOOD to come from it. I was reassured in this problem moment that my husband loves me and that more than anything I need, I have love.

So when trouble comes your way and trials try to stop your joy, remember to sing – IT IS WELL.

End of Break!

Standard

WOW.

The past few MONTHS have been crazy for Jared and me. We have gone through so many changes and discussions to our big day and life in general. Here are the high points:

– We changed the DATE from July 13 to MARCH 30!! Extremely excited. I am so glad we changed this because it’s the ORIGINAL date I had wanted for our wedding. 10 months for our engagement was just too long.

– We changed the LOCATION from Tennessee to WEST VIRGINIA! Jared’s family is up there and there are SO many reasons as to why we did this, I can’t list them all. However, let’s just say it is going to be SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper to have it up there and more of the wedding party will be able to make it easier.

– I got a wedding planner (Jared’s Aunt, Von) who is taking care of all the details. I am so thankful to have her… She has been a God-Send to me. It has changed my point of view on weddings and how to get it done.

Other than that, the wedding is the same. The people are the same. Can I just tell you something? I have enjoyed the past few months where I didn’t plan a thing. I didn’t watch a bridal reality show, I didn’t read a magazine article. I didn’t even go to our wedding website. I spent time enjoying our engagement and our time together. Jared is an amazing human being and I am always grateful for the time I get to spend with him.

Brides, don’t get ahead of yourselves. Don’t allow yourself to get overwhelmed. You need to take time to look at your fiance and remind yourself why you love him and want to marry him without picturing him in a tux for once! You are engaged ONE TIME (hopefully) and this is it! This is all the time you get! Spend that time being in love and with the one you love. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and accept help when it’s given. No, it may not be done exactly the way you envisioned it. But guess what? You won’t remember anyway! You will be so overwhelmed by the love of those you hold dear – it won’t matter what color the bridesmaid’s shoes were. It’ll matter who is with you. So take this time and savor it. It’s the only time you have to be engaged. Then the next phase begins! 🙂

Take a Break.

If there is one thing I would advise ALL brides-to-be, it would be to STOP.

Stop planning. Stop giving every single moment of your life to the wedding. Take a moment and RELAX!!

The invitations will be there in a few days. The dresses will still be there. The flowers do not need your attention right NOW.

You need a moment to breathe, relax, even spend some time with your friends, fiance, or just alone.

I did just that this weekend. Jared was out of town preaching and I had 3 days to myself. ALL alone. For some, this is a nightmare. But for me, this is a dream come true. I love to be alone. If I didn’t like Jared so much, I would probably live alone and be totally cool with it. I just want some time to think, to do some introspection and really delve into who I am as an individual.

Who am I kidding? I played Lego: Harry Potter Years 1-4. Started Friday and beat it on Sunday. And you know what? It was awesome. I didn’t think. I didn’t plan. I didn’t create some fantastic template to make my wedding programs awesome. I just sat, in bed, with my dog, and played my new game.

So PLEASE brides. Take a break. Relax. Don’t be so uptight.

I also ate a lot of cereal.

And listened to Alvin and the Chipmunks sing “She Loves You, Yeah Yeah YEAH” and “Japanese Banana” and “Witch Doctor.”

Confession is good for the soul – and so is rest.

To All it May Concern:

I’m doing something I thought I would never do—something that will make me a statistic and a caricature of the times. Some will support me, some will shake their heads and smirk condescendingly—and others will try to convince me that I’m part of the problem. Perhaps they’re right, but I don’t think so. All I know is that I’ve hit a wall, and in order to preserve my sanity, my family, and the forward movement of our lives, I have no other choice.

Before I go too much into my choice, I must say that I have the advantages and disadvantages of differentiated experience under my belt. I have seen the other side, where…

Things I make for the Big Day.

I am super excited to maybe use this print I made for my wedding. I love Bible verses on absolutely anything and I definitely think the more we have at our wedding, the better.

Vintage Pentecost

Vintage Pentecost: Psalm 130:7 Printable

Why? Not because I want to shove Jesus down my guests’ throats. Definitely not. I know that not everyone that come to our wedding will be Christian, and not everyone who comes to our wedding will be Pentecostal. However, I do know Jared and me. We are intense lovers of Christ and we want our personalities and passions to radiate in our relationship and marriage.

So, yeah. we are going to talk about Jesus and we are going to pray. We are going to sing worship songs in the wedding (IN THE WEDDING??!?! EGAD!) and give thanks to God who created us and fit us together.  There will be a sermon. There will be an altar call. We are going to have CHU’CH! It is going to be anointed and amazing. You will cry and you will even feel closer to God than maybe you’ve felt in a while.

You have been warned.

That’s my man.

Standard

Sitting at my desk, reminiscing on the pumpkin pie he made me yesterday, listening to him at the piano playing and singing How Great Thou Art, I am reminded of just a few of the reason why I love this man.

We walked around downtown tonight, and ate at Old Siam talking about dreams and ministry and cake toppers and musicals. I can not describe how much I am in love with my best friend. I can’t wait to marry him. No matter what craziness comes our way, we’re going to be fine.

I know a lot of people say this, but I’m 99.99999999999999999999999% sure because we were friends first. Best friends. BFFFFFFFFs. This boy, this man? I’ve loved him longer than I realized I did. We will last because we are built on friendship, trust, and a fat old funny bone. There is nothing I am ashamed for him to know. There is nothing I wouldn’t want to do for him or with him… he is the one I want at my side for everything, and I want to be at his side for everything. We are a team. We love, we accept, and we challenge each other.

We’re gonna make it.

An Ode to Bridesmaid Dresses.

Standard

Dear Bridesmaid Dresses,

I hate you. You are the bane of my entire wedding. You make me vomit. You are scuuuuum between my toes.

But for real. These stupid dresses make me want to not get married. Let me set the stage for you:

My girls (although they don’t know who they are yet… some of them… be warned… you could be next…) are all very VERY modest. And if they weren’t, the venue requires modesty. 3/4 length sleeves, knee length skirts are a MUST. So I looked all over the place for a rockin’ set of dresses – I do NOT want them to all look the same. Let me tell you why…

BRIDESMAIDS ARE STILL INDIVIDUALS. Please do NOT make your girls all wear the same dress. Your friends, sisters, countrywomen, are all different people and body types (unless you’re a vain creature who made sure all your bridesmaids were skinny and could wear whatever hideous thing you stick on them to make yourself feel prettier than them). What looks good on your sister Barbie won’t look good on your cousin Bertha.  If you are determined to not leave the decision making power all to your girls (we all have that one girlfriend you’re just afraid to let walk out of the house if she’s dressed herself without any help), find a nice store or website that will let you pick a few styles in the same color or shades of the same color. Let the girls pick from those.

Anyway, back to what I was saying.

I spent three whole days on the internet (GASP) trying to get a good site for the dresses. Let me tell you, I am an AMAZING Googler. I pride myself on my Googling skills. What takes others hours takes me minutes. What takes other minutes takes me seconds. What takes others seconds… well, you get the point.

NO, Bing is not BETTER.

I couldn’t find a store to do it. Then… that glorious of all glories… I found http://daintyjewells.com. It’s beautiful and have you SEEN the dresses?!?!

Oh. My. Goodness.

I quickly emailed the owner and asked her to contact me about the dresses… I’m thinking 8 months… tons of time.

Nope.

I get an email back from her saying that they are already at too high a volume and cannot do the dresses. Please cry with me. I’m going to see if they can do the “ready made” dresses and get them altered… Unless y’all can find me a better place. All that searching… for nothing.

So… help me. Please.

And I hate you, Bridesmaid Dresses.

Love, Alfalfa – I mean, Liz
